World Trade Center Construction: 2018
4 World Trade Center

This year marks seventeen years since tragedy struck New York City on September 11, 2001. When the World Trade Center was destroyed, thousands of people lost their lives. In the wake of tragedy, America is a nation that relies on hope, and we have come back stronger since that day. The World Trade Center has been under construction for the past few years to remind the world not only of the tragedy that occurred there but also of this nation’s ability to overcome trials.

One World Trade Center

New York saw a need to symbolize this nation’s strength by reconstructing the World Trade Center. One World Trade Center stands at 1,776 feet tall, which symbolizes the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed. It is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and can be seen easily in the New York City skyline. It opened in 2014 and has 3 million rentable square feet of office space. It’s home to companies such as Condé Nast, Servcorp, Kids, Legend, and GSA.

Two World Trade Center

Once completed, the Two World Trade Center will be the second-tallest building in the new World Trade Center complex. Its design is very different than the other towers in the area. From the 9/11 Memorial, the 2 WTC Tower will look just like any of the other nearby towers. But if you look at the 2 WTC from TriBeCa, its surrounding area, you will see several levels of terraces filled with all kinds of greenery. TriBeCa is known for its lofts and roof gardens, so this side of the Two World Trade Center will fit in perfectly.

Three World Trade Center

The Three World Trade Center is 80 stories tall and stands at 1,079 feet. It includes lots of office space and plenty of retail space for people to shop. This tower will also have a lot of natural light throughout because of large windows and white granite flooring that will help the light reflect throughout the building. An executive at the architecture firm that’s building this tower says that this natural light will help employees feel inspired as they work instead of trapped in a dark space. This building is scheduled to open this June.

Four World Trade Center

Standing at almost 1,000 feet, the Four World Trade Center Tower is the most advanced office building of this century. This is another building that has lots of rentable office space but also a lot of retail space. It’s connected to the Oculus, which houses the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and a huge shopping center, making it easy for people to travel to and from the World Trade Center complex from anywhere. The 4 WTC Tower is now occupied by several big companies such as Spotify, SNY, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Seven World Trade Center

The new Seven World Trade Center building sits on the same spot as the original one that was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks. It is 741 feet tall and 52 stories high. It contains 29 high-speed destination dispatch elevators. It’s also New York City’s very first LEED Gold Certified Office Building, which means that it is a highly efficient and green office building. The outside of the tower is made completely of glass, so the building is full of light throughout the day and reflects light outside for passersby to see. At night, it is lit up with LED projection sequences.

9/11 Memorial and Museum

Sitting within the two footprints of the Twin Towers are two reflecting pools. They are almost an acre in area and are the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. The names of every person who died in the 2001 attack and the 1993 attack are inscribed on bronze panels that line the edges of the memorial pools. The museum holds a 3-part exhibit that explains what happened before 9/11, the day of 9/11, and after 9/11. It’s a memorial exhibition that honors every person who lost their life on that fateful day and offers visitors a chance to learn about these people.

The World Trade Center has come a long way since its destruction on September 11, 2001. Many people didn’t know how New York City would come back from such a disastrous and heartbreaking event, but the city has shown the world that America is a strong nation through its new World Trade Center buildings that stand tall for everyone to see.
