Air conditioning plays a significant safety role in protecting construction, maintenance, and industrial workers and supplies from extreme heat. It is also crucial for maintaining a comfortable temperature in everyday places such as schools, offices, labs, outdoor tent events, and other facilities.

Spot coolers are an excellent and relatively inexpensive cooling solution in cases where an air conditioner cannot be installed or when an air conditioning system breaks down. These self-contained units are compact, portable, lightweight, and electrically powered—and are also quite easy to install.

There are different types of spot coolers, including air-cooled units and heat pump units—the main difference being that a heat pump unit can also be used to generate heat. Most models come with nozzles so that they can connect to ventilation tubes. They are also often utilized to provide targeted cooling to sensitive machinery. Check out the FAQs below to learn more.

FAQs

How much does it cost to rent a spot cooler?

Rental costs depend on size, location, duration of the rental, and local taxes and fees. Contact a BigRentz representative for more information on how much it costs to rent a spot cooler.

What are spot coolers commonly used for?

Spot coolers are versatile machines that can be used when the HVAC system isn’t working, for events, for medical or server rooms that need to be kept at a certain temperature, and in construction trailers or indoor work areas.

What size spot cooler do I need?

Spot coolers come in various sizes, and the size you need depends mainly on the size of the space you are cooling and what the environment is like—such as a construction site versus an office space. There are two considerations to determine what size you need: tonnage (how many tons of heat per hour the unit can remove) and British thermal units, or BTU, which estimates how much energy a unit can generate to provide sufficient cooling. One ton of cooling capacity equates to 12,000 BTU. One ton can cool about 400 cubic feet of air per minute.

How do I install a spot cooler?

One of the greatest benefits of a spot cooler is it is easy to set up. You will need a power source and space to vent the heat, such as a window or ceiling vent. Simply connect the nozzle on your unit to the venting system and turn the unit on. When using a spot cooler outdoors, be sure to vent the heat away from the area you are cooling. You will need to empty the condensation daily.
