A crane is a piece of heavy equipment that connects to a tower platform or mobile vehicle. You use cranes to lift and lower materials upwards and also shift them horizontally. They can be used for lifting construction materials, scrap metal, cars, mobile homes, etc. Cranes come in a variety of sizes and configurations, depending on the type of job you’re undertaking.
You can rent mobile cranes, such as crawler cranes, carry deck cranes, and all-terrain cranes, to navigate around worksites easily or rent a fixed or stationary crane to position in one place for prolonged use. Stationary cranes include bridge cranes; massive tower and hammerhead cranes (used in construction); stacker cranes often used in warehouses; and telescopic cranes, equipped with a hydraulic cylinder that allows for adjustable lengths. Most operated all terrain cranes range in size from 100 tons all the way up to 400 tons or more. (A few are in the 10- to 99-ton range.) Typically not as mobile or nimble as carry deck cranes, these cranes are usually transported on large, heavy-duty rigs.
